September is Hunger Awareness Month

Main Market’s mission is to grow our local food economy, and that means better food for everyone. Co-ops across the country are tackling this important idea, especially given the long held perception that health food stores cater primarily to the wealthy. That is NOT an ideal we or any co-op hold, and we’re actively seeking better ways to serve all of our community.

This month we’re partnering with Second Harvest during KYRS’s fund drive. Beginning with the drive running from September 8th through the 17th, every $35 or more donation to KYRS will be matched by MMC with a 2 pound food donation to Second Harvest and every Sustaining Member donation will be matched by MMC with 4 pounds of food donations. We’re going the extra mile and committing that all that food will be locally and sustainably sourced so that the food is full of quality nutrition AND supports our local farmers.

We’re also featuring 2nd Harvest as our Round Up at the Register organization for the month of September. 100% of round up donations will go toward food accessibility in Spokane. And as an additional reminder, Main Market gives a 5% discount to any shopper using their EBT card at the register. We believe that high quality food benefits local communities—everyone in our local community. Please join Main Market and KYRS in helping Second Harvest do their important work in our community.
